Robinson questions, answered
Buying, selling, servicing, or overhauling a Robinson raises the same questions again and again. Here are straight answers, on time to overhaul, pre-buy inspections, what an aircraft costs to own, parts, and trading up, from APEX, an authorized Robinson dealer and service center at Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) and Danbury Municipal (DXR).
Buying a Robinson
- What should I check first when buying a used Robinson?
Time remaining, how many of the 2,200 hours (2,000 on the R66) and 12 calendar years are left. It drives the real cost more than model year or total hours, because meeting the limit is a large, scheduled expense.
- Do I need a pre-buy inspection?
Always, by an authorized service center working for you, not the seller. A pre-buy verifies the airframe, logbooks, component times, and airworthiness-directive status against what the listing claims.
- How do payment and title transfer work when buying an aircraft?
Through an aviation escrow agent who runs a title and lien search, holds the funds, and files the bill of sale and FAA registration. Never wire a deposit directly to a seller you have not verified.
Selling & trade-in
- How do I sell my Robinson through APEX?
Three ways: list it with us for brokerage, sell it to us outright, or trade it toward a newer aircraft. Send the model, serial, hours, and condition to start.
- What is my Robinson worth?
It depends on hours, overhaul status, engine and component times, avionics, and condition. We value it against the live market, send the details and we will put a number on it.
- Should I overhaul my Robinson before I sell it?
Sometimes. Near the limit, the spread between selling it run-out and overhauling first can swing the result significantly. We run that math with you before you decide.
Service & inspections
- Is APEX an authorized Robinson service center?
Yes. APEX is an authorized Robinson dealer and service center, with locations at Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) in Florida and Danbury (DXR) in Connecticut.
- What does a Robinson pre-buy inspection cover?
Airframe and component condition, a logbook and airworthiness-directive review, life-limited component times, and a clear written report you can buy or walk away on.
- My helicopter is down, what should I do?
Call the AOG line. We triage the situation by phone, and as an authorized service center we can recover the aircraft without adding damage, then assess and repair it.
- Can APEX recover a crashed or stranded Robinson?
Yes. We recover crashed, grounded, repossessed, and water-stranded Robinsons, rigging only to the factory lift points so the aircraft takes on no further damage.
Overhaul
- When does a Robinson need an overhaul?
At 2,200 flight hours or 12 calendar years, whichever comes first, 2,400 hours on the R44 Cadet and 2,000 hours on the R66.
- Can I keep flying past the overhaul limit?
No. The limit is an airworthiness limitation, not a recommendation. The aircraft is grounded until the overhaul is complete.
- What does a Robinson overhaul cost?
It is dominated by the major dynamic components, the engine decision, and labor. Parts prices are public in our price list; the all-in figure needs an estimate for your serial number and current aircraft condition.
- How far ahead should I plan an overhaul?
Start about twelve months out. Kit and engine lead times drive the schedule more than shop time does, so planning early keeps the aircraft flying as long as possible.
Parts
- Does APEX sell Robinson parts?
Yes, Robinson parts, by request for quote. We do not run an online parts store; send your part numbers or what you need and we will quote it.
- Where do your parts come from?
Straight from Robinson. As an authorized dealer we supply Robinson parts, with current list prices published in our downloadable spare-parts price list.
General
- Where is APEX located?
Two locations: Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) in Florida and Danbury Municipal Airport (DXR) in Connecticut.
- Which Robinson models does APEX sell?
The R22, R44, and R66, both new factory orders and pre-owned aircraft.
- Can I trade my current Robinson toward a new one?
Yes. Trade through an APEX dealer trade-in, keep flying yours and trade at delivery, or through Robinson's factory trade-in program. We run both.
